How did the tractor truck market, which has outperformed the overall heavy-duty truck market for three consecutive months since September, perform? Will it perform even better? What will the year-end landscape of the tractor truck industry look like at the end of 2025?
Shacman Truks Surpasses 10,000 Units In Sales
December sales reached 51,000 units, a decrease of 17% month-on-month but an increase of 25% year-on-year.
According to the latest information from First Commercial Vehicle Network, based on data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) (based on enterprise invoicing data, not terminal sales data), in December 2025, my country’s heavy-duty truck market sold a total of 102,700 units, a decrease of 9% month-on-month but an increase of 22% year-on-year. Among them, the tractor truck market, as the most watched segment of the heavy-duty truck market, delivered a report card of simultaneous month-on-month decrease and year-on-year increase in December: sales reached 51,200 units, a decrease of 17% month-on-month but an increase of 25% year-on-year, achieving a “8-month consecutive year-on-year increase”. In December, the year-on-year growth rate of the tractor truck market was 25%, which was significantly narrower than the previous month (+85%), but it was 3 percentage points higher than the overall year-on-year growth rate of 22% in the heavy truck market, outperforming the heavy truck market for the fourth consecutive month.
Looking at the sales and growth trend of the tractor truck market in December over the past five years, the market has followed a pattern of decline-increase-increase-increase-increase (different from the overall trend of the heavy truck market). Only one year in those five years saw December sales exceed 50,000 units – December 2025, which just ended. Sales of 51,200 units represent a net increase of 10,400 units compared to December 2024, and significantly higher than the 20,000+ units sold in December from 2021 to 2023. If we extend the timeline to the past decade, December 2025 sales would rank second highest (only about 300 units less than the highest December sales of the decade, December 2020).
In terms of cumulative sales, the tractor truck market sold 591,300 units in 2025, ranking second in the past five years. This represents a 26% increase compared to 468,400 units sold in 2024, a net increase of approximately 123,000 units. The cumulative sales growth rate remained the same as after November (as shown in the chart above).
Shaanxi Automobile topped the monthly sales chart for the first time this year, Yutong saw a surge of over 300%, and Leichi entered the top eight.
In December 2025, the tractor truck market grew by 25% year-on-year, a decrease of 60 percentage points compared to the previous month (the tractor truck market grew by 85% year-on-year in November 2025). In December, two companies continued to exceed 10,000 units in sales, maintaining the same number of companies achieving monthly sales of over 10,000 units as the previous month. Shaanxi Automobile and FAW sold 10,800 and 10,100 units respectively, with Shaanxi Automobile taking the top spot in monthly tractor truck sales for the first time in 2025.

In terms of year-on-year growth, among the top ten tractor truck manufacturers in December 2025, nine saw increases and one saw a decrease. Yutong experienced a surge of 322% year-on-year, continuing its trend of doubling growth. Shaanxi Automobile, Dongfeng, Foton, BAIC Heavy Truck, and Farizon saw year-on-year growth of 65%, 31%, 58%, and 31% respectively, outperforming the overall tractor truck market in December 2025. Sinotruk and XCMG saw year-on-year growth of 15% and 3% respectively, lower than the overall market growth rate, while Shandong Leichi saw net growth.
In terms of market share, in December 2025, the top ten companies in the tractor truck market accounted for 96.1% of the total market share, with the top five companies alone accounting for over 80%, reaching 83.6%. In December 2025, four companies had a market share exceeding 10%, with Shaanxi Automobile ranking first with a monthly share exceeding 20%, reaching 21.2%. FAW Jiefang, Sinotruk, and Dongfeng had shares of 19.7%, 19.3%, and 15.6% respectively in December. Foton ranked fifth with a monthly share of 7.9%. XCMG, BAIC Heavy Truck, Shandong Leichi, Yuancheng, and Yutong, ranked 6th to 10th, had monthly shares ranging from 1.3% to 4.7%.
From an industry perspective, compared to the previous month, the top ten players in the tractor truck market remained unchanged in December 2025. The rankings changed as follows: Shaanxi Automobile rose two places to the top of the monthly list; BAIC Heavy Truck rose one place to seventh; Shandong Leichi rose one place to eighth; only Dongfeng, Foton, and XCMG (ranked 4th-6th) and Yutong (ranked 10th) maintained their rankings.
Total sales exceeded 590,000 units in 2025, with XCMG’s sales doubling and Foton’s market share surging.
In terms of cumulative sales, the tractor truck market sold a total of 591,300 units in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 26%. This cumulative sales growth rate was the same as after November 2025 (+26%), and approximately 122,900 units more than the total sales in 2024.
Specifically, looking at the top ten companies in terms of cumulative sales in 2025, most of them achieved growth (nine of the top ten saw increases and one saw a decrease, as shown in the chart above). Among them, XCMG, Foton, Farizon, and BAIC Heavy Truck saw significant year-on-year increases in cumulative sales of 119%, 73%, 69%, and 56% respectively, making them the leading companies in terms of growth. Sinotruk, FAW, Shaanxi Automobile, and Dongfeng saw year-on-year increases in cumulative sales of 27%, 17%, 32%, and 29% respectively, while Shandong Leichi saw net growth.
In terms of annual market share, the top ten tractor truck manufacturers accounted for 98.0% of total sales in 2025. Sinotruk and FAW, ranking first and second respectively, both held over 20% market share, reaching 25.5% and 22.1%. Shaanxi Automobile ranked third with a 16.6% market share. Dongfeng and Foton, ranking fourth and fifth respectively, also had market shares exceeding 10%, reaching 12.3% and 12.1%. The top five companies combined held a staggering 88.6% market share, demonstrating a significant lead. XCMG, BAIC Heavy Truck, Farizon, JAC, and Leichi, ranked sixth to tenth, had market shares ranging from 0.9% to 4.1% in 2025.
Compared to 2024, Sinotruk, Shaanxi Automobile, Dongfeng, Foton, XCMG, BAIC Heavy Truck, Farizon, and Leichi all saw increases in their annual market share in 2025. Foton and XCMG saw the most significant increases, rising by 3.2 and 1.7 percentage points respectively.
Compared to the year-end rankings of 2024, the top ten players and their positions in the tractor truck industry changed in 2025: Shandong Leichi, which was virtually unknown in the 2024 tractor truck rankings, made a strong entry into the top ten, ranking 10th in 2025; Farizon Commercial Vehicle, which ranked 10th in 2024, rose two places to 8th in the industry; and XCMG, which ranked 7th in 2024, rose one place to 6th in the tractor truck industry. It’s worth noting that the tractor truck industry in 2025 saw a constant back-and-forth movement, with the year-end rankings not being revealed until the very last month (after December, Dongfeng surpassed Foton to rank 4th, and BAIC Heavy Truck surpassed Farizon to rank 7th).
